Water. Ahhh!

Spa-like pool, in my neighborhood!
Spa-like pool, in my neighborhood!

I took this picture when we first moved into our Florida home. It reminds me of a beautiful spa in WI (Sundara Inn and Spa) – I haven’t “spa-ed” much, and wow, did I love that experience of decadence!

Anyway, I was delighted to discover that this is our community pool!

I didn’t like the foreground in the original photo, so this is cropped to put the focus on the pool. Please note the large urn (on the left of the photo) with water cascading into the pool – there are two of them! (You can see the splash from the urn that is out of sight.)

I would love to retake the picture for this Photo 101 assignment – I was at a slight angle in my lounge chair, so the horizon line isn’t straight. I could perhaps take it differently, just from what I’ve learned in three days of this course. Alas, our pool is under construction for the summer.

(same picture, edited to straighten horizon line - which do you like better?)

I prefer the original, it gives more context and detail. Maybe a slightly wider crop could be better, I think it is cropped too much, you don’t get much of a frame 🙂

Thanks, Mel, for your feedback! You’re right about a wider crop to get more of a frame. I hope I’m learning to see more like a photographer – thanks for helping me.

I kind of like the first one better. I like the tile in the foreground – it lightens it up a bit. But they are both nice. And what a beautiful pool.

Those urns make me want to recreate an Esther Williams movie – beautiful. The straight horizon line makes a huge difference.

The cropped one is better in my opinion, it focuses on the subject.

That’s funny re straightening out the horizon, I love taking pix of the cove near where I live, and always fail to think of the horizon line, til it’s too late. What do you use to straighten it? I do like the 2nd one better 🙂 Altho did not notice the line until you pointed it out lol… ENJOY your spa! And that sun will help the blues as well!

I used the edit tool in Picasa to straighten it. Still trying to figure out how to find the pictures that aren’t on my iPhone!
